Child development through creative exploration!

Stonecreek Studio Pottery is an ideal environment for children to explore their creativity while learning the craft of ceramics. Stonecreek offers affordable ongoing weekly classes for children 6 to 18 years of age. We focus on the "real life" benefits of arts education; creative problem solving, pride, accomplishment and comradeship. Research shows that involvement in arts education can help ensure a child's success in school and life! Americans for the Arts.org

Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium that many children have never experienced before. Its three dimensional nature forces them to think about structure, shapes and forms. They can experiment with a variety of building techniques while they learn to think about their ideas and adapt to change along the way. Students are assured of personal attention and as much time on a potter's wheel as they desire! There is something very magical about children when they are thinking and working creatively. Once children learn to express and execute their personal visions in clay, they can become empowered in ways that go far beyond the walls of the ceramic studio or classroom! We believe that children should not be limited in finding their potential. When they are open to new ideas and experiences, they can create ANYTHING in their lives!

Schedule and fees

Special event nights and seasonal activities will be announced during the year so check back for further information. For instance, there are plans in place for special Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas activities as well as a "Burst into Spring" and an "End of Summer" activity.

Storybook Clay
We read a popular children's storybook, then work with wet clay to sculpt objects and characters from the book. After the students decorate the projects, the staff will clear glaze and fire each piece for each participant to take home (later) as a keepsake. This activity has become very popular with public schools for inclusion in units on Native Americans, early settlers, etc. and can be done in several ways on campus. Call for details.

Art Adventures I - for ages 6 - 10
This program is designed to introduce young students to the world of art. Each week we will explore a different theme, using various clay mediums, that will build the confidence of the young artists. Each student works at their own pace. Instructors assist in learning pottery wheel throwing, handbuilding, sculpting, under glazing (painting), clear glazing and dip glazing. Our inforced small class sizes insure personal attention as the children explore their creativity and work toward project completion.

Art Adventures II - for ages 10 - 16
This program provides a great way for children to explore the various mediums and formats, while also learning about the history of art and different cultures. Each student works at their own pace. Instructors assist in learning pottery wheel throwing, handbuilding, sculpting, under glazing (painting), clear glazing and dip glazing. Our inforced small class sizes insure personal attention as the children explore their creativity and work toward project completion.

Infant hand & foot print tiles
Hand and foot prints are fun to make and become cherished, permanent keepsakes! All materials used are non-toxic and safe for parent and child! This is a great experience to share with your young child and creates lasting memories - both mentally and something you can hold in your hands in years to come and remember the wonderful times of young parenting. Completed project will be suitable for hanging as it is or framing, if desired. Framing is the responsibility of the parent.
